Sweden X by daneferguson
I recently got invited to Sweden by Daniel Bodin for the new annual event called Sweden X. Sweden was great and so were all the people that helped to put on this event. Daniel was in charge of building the course and it turned out great, as long as you don't like safety decks. 4 super kickers with 2 that crossed so you were jumping over the other ramp. It also had a snow step up and step down as well. At the first practiced I was stoked to try out the course. I was working my way through all the ramps tricking and flipping everything. When I moved over to the snow step up I started having problems. The jump was dug with an excavator and was not exactly straight and square. None the less I whipped it and I grabbed it, but when I went to flip it I must have got off my smooth line, cause when I rotated around I found my self coming in perpendicular to the landing. I wadded my knee and of to the medic I went. They said I strained something, and thought there was a chance that something may have broke but the nearest MRI machine was over 3 hours away. My knee swelled up quite a bit and that evening, after talking it over with Daniel, we decided that I should not to ride in the comp the next day. Then the next day came and I changed my mind again. These fans were so great just in practice I figured if there is a chance that I can ride than I will. I have rode with a fractured bone in my ankle before and this didn't hurt as bad as that. The problem is when I rode on the fracture before I ended up breaking the end of the bone off and I got 2 screws and missed spring riding that season. With this dilemma on my mind and unsure of my injury I decide that I would perform on the only super kicker that had a safety deck which also happened to be closest to the crowd. Going into the comp I didn't really expect to do to well so I was just there to entertain. I brought some extra stickers and H.I.P. movies to give away to the crowd and as an added bonus to them, I let the crowd choose what tricks they wanted to see. I gave them 4 basic signals whip, flip, bar trick, and grab trick. Every time I rounded the corner I would check with the crowd and the majority ruled. They had me start with the flip went through the basics and then 2 more flips to finish my run. The crowd loved the interaction, the kids loved the stickers and I'm sure the people that got hit by the flying dvd's were stoked as well. It turns out that Levalli chose not to ride cause he didn't get enough ramp time in the USA, Sam got waisted and screwed himself, and I was lucky that Hoyer, The Duck and Ted Culbertson (who got the rookie of the year) bobbled just enough to let me into the finals. In the finals it was the same deal. I let the crowd choose my tricks. Of course they started me out with a flip but as my run went on some smart ass got the idea to start calling combo's. At first they called for a flip/ whip which I did not do. That's basically what took me down the day before. I wasn't going to play along, besides the whole point in just hitting the safest ramp was so I didn't push it to hard and ruin my knee, but then they called for a backflip/ bar trick so I figured I would sort of play along by landing the flip no handed. They eventually called for a whip/ grab and I threw a whipped out 3 o'clock indy, and then I wrecked a huge whip to finish my run. In the end we finished in this order; Bodin, Norgard, Blaze, Kourt and me. Bodin shredded the whole course with flip variations, K O D's and all his sick tricks. After reshaping the step up and asking me if I thought he had enough power to make it, he ended his victory run by flipping the step up. Norgard through down almost as hard but crashed in the final round. Blaze did the best run I have ever seen from him in person. Kourt is the best at the tricks he does but just needs to flip and use the whole course to make regular podium positions. I am back home now. The knee still hurts. It wakes me up at night and is soar to walk on but I'm still riding. I am really looking forward to going back next year and hopefully beating Bodin on his own turf.

Rock Star by daneferguson
I just got back home from a long road trip. First I took 2nd in the Impact fx comp in Great Falls Mt. Then I went over to Cooke city for a week to practice with Sam Rogers for X games. After that I went to Electric Mountain Lodge with Daniel Bodin and Todd Welch from Colorado Sled Style. We hung out there and hit the ramp the week before X games. Blaze and the twins were there and Levi stopped by as well. At X games I placed 7th and set a new record. 130 foot ramp to snow back flip, But best of all I'm now with Rock Star Energy Drink.

disappointing snow fall by daneferguson
With one inch accumulative snow fall for this season we are finding it hard to push up a good landing to practice for winter x games. Turnagain Hard Core and The Swanson Steel Company came up with a generator and compressor so we could blow snow. When we finally got the snow blowing we got 6 inches in the first hour then the weather got warmer and the snow turned to rain. We are now waiting for the weather to get cold again so we can continue to blow snow. |

delta trip by daneferguson
Last week we made a trip to delta. We went to watch Joe flip his new yfz 450. We started by flipping mini bikes but after not to long Joe went for it on the atv. He came in too fast and didn't rotate. He bailed and was not hurt but he bent his rear axle. We spent the rest of the time building jumps and riding mini's until my bike got ran over by the dozer. Then we had to go. I want to thank Anthony Downs for letting me barrow his bike, a yzf 250. I was planning on just going for a trail ride but some how we ended up out at the ramps and I had to try flipping a four stroke. Fortunately all went well and I was amazed at how quick they rotate. Thanks Anthony

oh what a weekend by daneferguson
First we flipped my 250 into the lake. Then the next day some friends came out to hit the foam pit and Traves came up with a great idea we pushed the mini bike ramp up to the woodchip landind and made a little step up. Originally Traves was gonna flip lisa's kx110 but he sprained his ankle practicing in the foam pit. I ended up flipping it on the cr70. I wanted to try my 250 on it but we burned it up at the lake then today Lisa let me use her kx125 to flip. It was a small flip and it took 5 wrecks but I finnally stuck 3 in a row. There is a sequence shot of a mini flip in the dirt riders photo section. I'll put some more up when I get them.

no more half loop by daneferguson
In Delta they used to call him 1/2 loop but not any more. Joe Lupo age 17 is the first Alaskan to ever flip a 4 wheeler on dirt. It may not have been the worlds biggest or best flip but to stick it on a blaster over a fifteen foot table with out the use of a foam pit is damn impressive and I'm sure it's just a matter of time until he gets a good 4 wheeler with the power and suspension to do them safer and bigger. Unfortunately I missed it but I can't complain. I was in delta at the time, but I was hunting over at the Hollembaeks big game ranch. Check them out at www.bisonandelk.com. Let me make it clear this is no lame ass, waking up early, walking through the woods, making animal calls kind of hunting. This is a private ranch. Russell, Scott, and Isaac rode a tractor, Katie rode a 4 wheeler and I rode a dirt bike. We ripped around till we found a heard and I hopped on the quieter wheeler. My buddy Russell shot a bison and then Katie chased the heard away with a 4 wheeler. Scott scooped the bison up with a fork lift put on a snow-machine trailer and by the time we ripped dirt bikes along the trails back to the barn it was hung up and half cleaned out. Although I've never been hungry enough or cared to hunt before this was quite impressive. I don't know that this is how they always do it but it wasn't like the hill billies on the out door network that wound an animal chase it down then finish it off. Russ hit that thing right between the eyes and it was dead before it hit the ground. On a hunt they save all the meat even livers and hearts if you want and that is sick. They keep the hide and make decorative art with some of the bones. It was quite an experience dirt bike hunting and I look forward to rutting up the farm again soon.

Summer fun by daneferguson
It's been a while since I last updated this site. I've still been getting some periodic rides in at some undisclosed locations but it's just about over for this snow machine season and we're in the process of setting up some wood chips and out fitting the sleds with radiators. I just got back from a road trip to Delta, Alaska. Todd and I went north to ride mini's with our buddies Carry and Russell on the big game ranch. We saw a lot of wild animals, dodged a lot of bison patties and got stuck in the mud. When we first showed up to the pit they had the Turnagain Hardcore ramp propped up and every kid in town was flipping bmx into the water. I'd never actually flipped a bmx bike before and it had a while since I'd ridden one, so the gnarly down hill dirt run in was pretty intense but once I got past that and on to the ramp it was pretty much just like a mini bike flip. It took us a couple of days but we finally ran into Joe Lupo. Joe is better known to the locals as "half loop" this name was given to him after his first flip attempt on snow where he only rotated half way. Joe has a lot of courage, natural talent, and high pain tolerance. Unfortunately he is also riding some old metal. On his first attempted he came in third gear pinned and did a huge half a flip. I suggested to come in slower and wheely off the lip. When he tried the wheeler just couldn't do it. I rode the wheeler and it had no balls I couldn't wheely that thing on flat ground and it kept cutting out. He tried one more time then he shut it down. All in all the Delta is pretty cool place although the natural terrain is flat the trails are good and the people great. I'm looking forward to going back up there and hopefully we can find a better 2 stroke 4 wheeler soon.

more flips by daneferguson
today we have added 2 more people to the snowmachine flip list. We dug in a nice safe step up and I went first to try to show them how its done. I got side ways, crashed and got up laughing. Next Lucas Hile, with out even prerunning the jump threw down a perfect flip. Joel Brewermade several attempts with no luck. Then Justin Franks took 3 attempts to stick it but then circled right back around.

good days by daneferguson
last weekend we had some really good riding days, unfortunately Sam Rogers wasn't here to show off but everybody else was. Christoph threw the sickest most inverted re-entry whips I've ever whitnessed. Snow crosser Corey Davis threw a huge 1 handed whip. But not one of those snow cross whips a real whip. Randy Sherman took the worst luck award when he lost his sled at the top of the hill and it proceeded to go end over end down the hill. By the time it stopped almost all of the plastics, lights, and seat were gone and the chasis looked like an old crushed soda pop can. Kenny Karcz made it back for his first ride and is looking good. Kyle Ambrust came out and demonstrated to my how the perfect whip is executed. And since I couldn't make mine look as good as his I decided just to do off axis flips instead. Pictures are avalible in the photo section.

Mission Accomplished by daneferguson
He did it. 17 year old Sam Rogers stuck a 85 foot flip. Once again it was cloudy but since it was his last day we had to do it. He rolled the jump one time then just did it. On the first attempt he got side ways at 65 feet and got bucked off on landing. Then he just fixed the jump and rolled right in and stuck a perfect 85 foot flip. This guy definitely has skills and is not afraid. I sure can't wait for him to come back up. Check out his pictures in the photo section.

Sam Rogers by daneferguson
Sam came here early in the week but can't stay long unfortinately cause he has to be back for work. Basicly the whole time hes been here the weather has been really gloomy and visibility has been poor. First day we went out the snow was super deep and the light was way flat, was super hard to see depth or anything. We made our way to the top of the mountain so we dug a backflip hit, the snow started layin down even thicker so we headed back to the compound and flipped cr 70's into the foam pit. Day 2 we showed up to find our back flip jump to be completely covered by snow.. We wandered aimlessly on the top. afraid to fall off any unseen cliffs so we decided to pack up. We headed to the valley to flip some 250's into the lake, but one lake still had ice and the next we went to had a really sketchy setup. So we headed to the pit to flip the KX 110. Day 3 we're leavin for Turnagain.

Late season by daneferguson
Do to a hair line fracture in my foot I have missed most of the last two weeks of riding. I'm back on my sled again but taking it easy for a while mostly digging jumps and taking photos. Turnagain is still getting new snow today and is sure to be nice this weekend. As for a local injury update. Carey Cosgrove's ankle still hurts from the surgery but he is out riding and going over 180 feet. Christoph has an ankle problem. It seems to limit the number of times he hits a jump but it doesn't keep him from going big as usual. Kenny Karcz is looking preety good after his plasic surgery and I think he might be able to put a helmet on soon. Dan phillips is out for the season with a broken foot. Sam Carver is out for the season with a broken arm. I hear Ross Mercer is back to riding around already, after fracturing/compressing a vertebre 3 weeks ago. Jason Semler is back home after breaking six vertebre and he is moving around slowly spending alot of time laying down. Both Randy and Tuomi's shoulders dislocate when ever they get jolted wrong. For Randy this is a new problem and he is taking it easy trying to let it heal its self. Tuomi has been dealing with this for a while and has surgury scheduled in a month so he's pushing it more than usual. I haven't heard how Heath's broken back or Jay's broken leg are doing but those guys have rode on a broken leg befor. Jimmy Blaze is also taking a break from performing on the crusty tour because of injuries he suffered after his body got slammed on the flat deck in a flip attempt gone bad. And for the worst news. Paul Thacker is the latest rider to make an over night stay at the hospital. On a back flip, too big and too side ways to walk away from, he broke an ankle on one foot and cracked the Tibia of the other leg on impact. And on the handle bars he knocked out some teeth, broke his eye socket and ripped his cheek from the corner of his lips toward his ear a couple of inches.
